10The Acropolis Is Over 2,500 Years Old

The Acropolis, meaning “high city” in Greek, dates back to the 5th century BCE during the golden age of Athens.
The most famous structure within the Acropolis, the Parthenon, was built between 447 and 432 BCE under the leadership of the Athenian statesman Pericles. It was designed to honor Athena, the patron goddess of the city, and remains one of the greatest achievements of classical architecture.
