During the early 19th century, Lord Elgin, a British diplomat, removed a significant portion of the Parthenon’s sculptures and transported them to Britain. These sculptures, known as the Elgin Marbles, are now housed in the British Museum in London. 

Greece has long demanded their return, arguing that they are an essential part of their cultural heritage. The debate over their repatriation continues to be a major issue in international cultural discussions.
