4Itsukushima (Miyajima), Japan
Famous for its “floating” torii gate, Itsukushima offers one of Japan’s most iconic and surreal landscapes. During high tide, the gate appears to hover above the water, while at low tide, visitors can walk right up to it.
The island itself is a blend of sacred shrines, forested hills, and free-roaming deer, giving it an almost mystical atmosphere.
