7Belgium and the Netherlands – Baarle-Hertog/Baarle-Nassau

This European border town is a cartographic puzzle. Baarle is divided into a patchwork of Belgian and Dutch enclaves, with some buildings straddling both countries.

Restaurants, homes, and even shops often have front doors in one country and back doors in another. To make things even more intriguing, the exact boundary is marked with white crosses on the ground, allowing visitors to step in and out of Belgium and the Netherlands with just a few strides.
