This border has become increasingly unstable due to political and economic issues in the region. Large numbers of people have crossed in search of better living conditions, putting pressure on local communities and border controls.
Smuggling routes and organized crime activity in certain areas also contribute to the risks. In some places, official crossings have been closed, forcing people to use unofficial and potentially unsafe paths.
