7The Acropolis Was Once Vibrantly Colored

Contrary to the pristine white marble we associate with ancient Greek monuments today, the buildings on the Acropolis were once painted in vivid colors. 

The Parthenon and other structures featured bright pigments such as blue, red, and gold. Traces of these pigments have been detected by archaeologists, challenging the long-standing perception of ancient Greek art as monochromatic.
