6The Caryatids Are Not All Original

The Erechtheion, one of the Acropolis’ most famous structures, is known for its stunning Caryatids—sculpted female figures that serve as architectural supports.

However, the ones you see today are replicas. The originals have been moved to the Acropolis Museum to protect them from environmental damage. One of the Caryatids was taken to the British Museum by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century, where it remains to this day.
