7Kalathaki Limnou – The Basket Cheese of Lemnos

On the island of Lemnos, kalathaki is a famous white cheese made from sheep’s milk. This soft, salty cheese is named after the small woven baskets in which it is traditionally aged.

Similar to feta but with a firmer texture, kalathaki is commonly used in salads or served as a table cheese with honey and bread. Lemnos’ dairy products are among the finest in Greece, and kalathaki is one of the island’s culinary treasures.
