5Lefkes – The Mountain Heart of Paros
Perched in the hills at the center of the island, Lefkes feels like a world away from the coast. Once the island’s capital, it was built amphitheatrically to protect residents from pirate raids. Today, it remains one of the most beautiful and authentic villages in the Cyclades.
Cars are left at the entrance, so walking becomes the only way to explore. Marble-paved alleys wind past white houses with blue shutters, blooming bougainvillea, and quiet courtyards. The scent of jasmine and fresh bread fills the air in the mornings.
The village square is the heart of daily life. Elderly locals gather under shaded trees, and small cafés serve Greek coffee at an unhurried pace. From various viewpoints, you can see all the way to Naxos across the Aegean. Lefkes is ideal for travelers who want silence, scenery, and a sense of timelessness.
