In Greek mythology, the River Acheron was one of the five rivers of the underworld, where souls journeyed after death.

Today, the Acheron flows through Epirus, offering both haunting history and natural beauty. Visitors can hike along its banks, kayak in its waters, or visit the Necromanteion of Acheron, an ancient oracle of the dead. Standing at the riverside, it’s not hard to picture Charon ferrying souls into Hades’ realm.
