3The Ancient Greeks Invented Theater

Theater as we know it today has its roots in ancient Greece. Greek playwrights like Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides wrote some of the earliest and most influential plays, including tragedies and comedies.

The famous open-air theaters, such as the Theater of Epidaurus, showcased these performances, which were often part of religious festivals honoring Dionysus, the god of wine and entertainment.
