The persistent tremors and the subsequent collapse of Red Beach have led to widespread concern among both residents and visitors. More than 11,000 individuals have evacuated the island, seeking refuge on the mainland. The sudden surge in demand for transportation resulted in overwhelmed ferry services and a shortage of available tickets, causing frustration and anxiety among those attempting to leave.
In response to the evacuations, authorities have intensified security measures to prevent potential looting in the temporarily deserted areas. Increased police patrols and roadblocks have been established, particularly in the capital, Fira, to safeguard property and maintain order.
