9Melissani Cave – Kefalonia

Melissani Cave is an enchanting sea cave with a partially collapsed roof, allowing sunlight to filter in and illuminate the turquoise waters below. This cave, located near Sami in Kefalonia, was once believed to be the home of nymphs in Greek mythology.

Visitors can take a guided boat tour across the lake inside the cave, where the changing light creates an almost surreal atmosphere. The best time to visit is midday when the sun is directly overhead, enhancing the cave’s otherworldly glow.
