3Zakynthos (Ζάκυνθος)

Zakynthos was named after its first settler, Zakynthos, the son of the legendary Arcadian chief Dardanus. Homer mentioned Zakynthos in both the Iliad and the Odyssey, emphasizing its long-standing importance in Greek history.

The island has also been called “Fiore di Levante” (Flower of the East) by the Venetians due to its lush landscape.
