This bronze statue, discovered in 1896 at the sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi, dates to around 470 BCE.
The Charioteer was part of a larger group commemorating a victory in the Pythian Games, one of the major athletic festivals in ancient Greece. Its intricate details and lifelike expression make it a masterpiece of Classical bronze work.
