9Temple of Hephaestus – Athens

Just a short walk from the Parthenon, in the ancient Agora, stands the Temple of Hephaestus. Often overshadowed by its famous neighbor, it is actually one of the best-preserved ancient temples in the world. Dedicated to Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship and fire, this temple was completed around 415 BC.

Its preservation allows visitors to appreciate how a complete Greek temple once looked: solid marble columns, intact pediments, and traces of painted decoration. Surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the ruins of the Agora, it offers a tranquil contrast to the busy modern city below.
