6Temple of Athena Nike – Athens

Also located on the Athenian Acropolis, the Temple of Athena Nike is smaller and more delicate than the Parthenon, but no less elegant. Built around 420 BC, it was dedicated to Athena as the goddess of victory (“Nike”).

Its Ionic columns and friezes celebrate military triumphs, particularly over the Persians, yet its proportions and grace embody peace and beauty. From its platform, visitors can look out toward the Aegean — a view that once symbolized Athens’ power and aspirations.
