9Monemvasia, Greece
Often called the “Gibraltar of the East,” Monemvasia is built into the side of a massive rock island connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway.
Behind medieval stone walls, the town reveals cobbled alleys, Byzantine churches, and balconies overlooking the sea. While it has gained some recognition in recent years, it still feels hidden compared to Greece’s famous island towns.
The atmosphere is almost dreamlike — especially at night, when lanterns glow along ancient pathways and waves echo below the cliffs. It’s one of those rare places where every corner feels like a photograph waiting to happen.
