6Kastro, Thasos, Greece

High in the mountains of Thasos sits Kastro, one of the oldest villages on the island. Once home to dozens of families, it now has only a small number of residents, adding to its mysterious charm.

Stone houses cling to the hillside, and narrow paths wind through what feels like an open-air museum. The village was originally built inland to protect residents from pirates, which explains its dramatic mountain setting.

From the top, views stretch across forests to the distant sea — a reminder of how timeless and untouched parts of the Mediterranean still are.
