1Filerimos Monastery and Hill
Filerimos is a serene cultural and religious site located on a hill near Ialysos. The monastery itself is a historic structure built by the Knights of St. John, featuring Byzantine-style architecture, frescoes, and religious icons. Surrounding it is a peaceful garden and a network of walking paths that lead up the hill.
One of the highlights of Filerimos is the Via Crucis, a path marked by 14 stations depicting the Crucifixion. Walking the route offers not only spiritual reflection but also panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the coastline. At the top of the hill, you’ll find the ruins of an ancient acropolis, which adds an archaeological layer to the visit.
Filerimos combines history, religion, and natural beauty in a way that few other sites on Rhodes do. It’s ideal for travelers looking to explore both cultural heritage and scenic landscapes.
