7Amorgos

Amorgos is one of the most atmospheric islands in the Cyclades, known for its dramatic cliffs, spiritual energy, and fiercely preserved traditions. Life here moves at an unhurried pace, shaped by the sea and the mountains.

Villages like Langada and Tholaria remain deeply local, where elderly residents gather in cafés to discuss the weather and the day’s catch. The island’s cuisine reflects its character — simple, seasonal, and rooted in the land, with dishes such as patatato (slow-cooked goat with potatoes) and local cheeses made by small producers.

Amorgos is also famous for its monasteries, especially the cliff-hanging Hozoviotissa, which remains a place of devotion rather than tourism. Visitors are welcomed, but expected to respect the island’s spiritual atmosphere — a quiet reminder that this is a living culture, not a performance.
