8Corfu – The Emerald Isle of the Ionian

Corfu, part of the Ionian Islands, is often called the “Emerald Isle” due to its dense vegetation. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and ample rainfall, Corfu is a tapestry of lush olive groves, cypress trees, and wildflowers. Over 4 million olive trees cover the island, contributing to its endless green landscapes.

The island’s mountainous northern region offers hiking trails through thick forests, leading to breathtaking viewpoints. The Korission Lagoon, surrounded by cedar forests and dunes, is one of its most picturesque natural areas. The scenic Paleokastritsa area features verdant cliffs meeting turquoise waters, and the Ropa Valley is a haven of fertile plains and vineyards.
