Zakynthos is one of those islands where the color of the sea almost doesn’t look real. Part of the Ionian Islands, it is famous for brilliant turquoise water, limestone cliffs and spectacular beaches.
The island’s coastline is best explored by boat, particularly around the famous Blue Caves and the rugged northern coast. Zakynthos is also known for its loggerhead sea turtles, which nest on protected beaches.
Beyond the postcard scenery, you’ll find traditional villages, olive groves and plenty of excellent tavernas serving classic Greek dishes.
