10Home to One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

Rhodes was once home to the Colossus of Rhodes, a massive bronze statue of the sun god Helios. Standing over 30 meters (98 feet) high, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Built in 280 BCE to celebrate Rhodes’ victory over Cyprus, it was tragically destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BCE. Though no trace of the statue remains today, its legend continues to captivate visitors.
