6Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor is hardly a secret anymore, but the spectacular Montenegrin town and its surrounding bay still deserve a place on any “visit before everyone else” list.
Surrounded by steep mountains, the medieval Old Town sits beside the dramatically shaped Bay of Kotor. Inside the historic walls, stone lanes lead to small squares, churches and centuries-old buildings.
For a quieter experience, stay outside the busiest cruise-ship hours and explore nearby villages along the bay. The combination of mountains, medieval architecture and shimmering water makes this one of the most visually impressive corners of the Adriatic.
