10The Parthenon – Athens

The Parthenon is the crown jewel of ancient Greek architecture and the symbol of Athens itself. Perched atop the Acropolis, it was built between 447 and 432 BC to honor Athena Parthenos, the city’s patron goddess. Designed by architects Ictinus and Callicrates, and adorned with sculptures by Phidias, it exemplifies the Doric order — austere, balanced, and graceful.
