At first glance, Fraser Island looks like a slice of paradise: caramel-colored dunes, crystalline lakes, and endless coastline. But its beauty hides a long list of hazards.
The waters surrounding the island are patrolled by bull sharks and plagued by deadly riptides, making swimming extremely risky. On land, Fraser is infamous for its population of aggressive dingoes, which have been known to attack unsuspecting visitors. Add in venomous jellyfish like the Irukandji, and this island becomes one of Australia’s most dangerous coastal destinations.
