10North Korea – South Korea
Perhaps the most famous tense border on Earth, the dividing line between North and South Korea is known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Despite its name, it is one of the most heavily guarded borders in the world.
Soldiers stand watch on both sides, surveillance is constant, and strict rules control movement. The two countries are technically still at war, since the Korean War ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty. While visitors can safely tour certain controlled areas, this border remains a symbol of unresolved conflict.
