1Greece or Italy: Which Should You Visit First?
If your dream holiday means islands, beaches, swimming, sunsets and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere, choose Greece.
If you imagine Rome, Renaissance art, incredible food, historic cities, wine regions and road trips, choose Italy.
If you have around a week, I would choose one country rather than trying to squeeze both into the same trip. Each deserves enough time to experience properly.
For a first-ever Mediterranean holiday, Italy may offer slightly more variety in a shorter period. Its major cities are packed with attractions and connected by an extensive rail network.
But if your idea of the perfect European escape is waking up beside brilliant blue water and spending the day moving between beaches and tavernas, Greece may win you over immediately.
And perhaps the best answer is not really Greece versus Italy at all.
It is Greece first, Italy next — or Italy first, Greece next.
Either way, you are unlikely to regret having both on your travel list.
