9The Antikythera Mechanism

Dubbed the world’s first analog computer, the Antikythera Mechanism was discovered in a shipwreck off the Greek island of Antikythera in 1901.

This complex device, dating back to around 100 BCE, consists of intricate gears used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses. The mechanism reveals the advanced understanding of mathematics and engineering possessed by the ancient Greeks.
