10Rhodes Old Town, Greece

Located on the Greek island of Rhodes, Rhodes Old Town is one of the most impressive medieval centers in Europe. Surrounded by massive stone walls, the UNESCO-listed historic district was shaped largely during the rule of the Knights of Saint John between the 14th and 16th centuries.

Walking through the Old Town means wandering along cobbled streets lined with stone houses, atmospheric courtyards and historic inns. The famous Street of the Knights leads toward the imposing Palace of the Grand Master, while the surrounding fortifications provide a reminder of Rhodes’ strategic importance in the medieval Mediterranean. The combination of medieval architecture and sunny Greek-island surroundings makes Rhodes Old Town particularly unique.
