6Kotor Bay, Montenegro
Few landscapes in Southern Europe are as dramatic as the Bay of Kotor. Towering mountains rise almost vertically from the water, surrounding medieval settlements and small coastal villages.
The fortified Old Town of Kotor is the region’s historic centerpiece. Inside its walls, stone lanes lead to churches, squares and centuries-old buildings.
But the bay itself is just as impressive. Driving along the coastline reveals changing perspectives of the mountains and water, while villages such as Perast provide some of the region’s most picturesque scenes.
Kotor is where Mediterranean scenery meets a distinctly Balkan sense of history.
