5Scottish Islands
Occasional opportunities around the lower end of the market
Scotland is another European country where private-island ownership can be surprisingly attainable compared with famous Mediterranean markets.
Current market research identifies Scotland among the European locations where private islands have appeared from roughly £120,000–£200,000, although individual listings and availability change rapidly.
The scenery is spectacular but decidedly wild: rocky coastlines, mountains, moors and enormous stretches of open water.
The trade-off is obvious. A Scottish island at this price is unlikely to resemble a luxury Greek retreat, and infrastructure can be a major expense.
