The Mediterranean dream starts at a much higher price — but exceptions exist
Greece is where most people imagine their private-island fantasy, and for good reason.
The Ionian Sea offers turquoise water, dramatic coastlines and a climate that is considerably warmer than northern Europe’s. But genuinely private Greek islands are usually far more expensive than the bargain headlines suggest.
Makri’s €247,000 starting auction price is an extraordinary exception, while other current Greek listings are priced in the millions.
This makes Greece an especially interesting market to monitor, but buyers should be extremely careful about confusing an island, an island parcel and mainland coastal land.
