10Oia

No list of Santorini highlights can begin anywhere else. Perched high above the caldera on the island’s northern tip, Oia is the village most travelers dream of before they arrive. Narrow marble lanes curve between white cave houses, elegant terraces, art galleries, and small boutiques. Every turn seems to open onto a dramatic view of the volcanic cliffs and the sea below.

Oia is best known for its famous sunset. As evening approaches, visitors gather along the pathways, terraces, and castle ruins to watch the sky shift from gold to pink and deep orange. Yet the village is equally rewarding in the early morning. Before the crowds arrive, Oia feels calm, almost contemplative, and its architecture becomes easier to appreciate.

Beyond the iconic views, Oia has a slower rhythm that invites wandering. Small churches, hidden courtyards, and tucked-away cafes often become some of the most memorable discoveries.
