2Day 3: Saronic Islands – Easy Island Escape

After two days of exploration, it’s time to embrace Greece’s island lifestyle. The Saronic Islands are ideal for a day trip, as they are easily accessible by ferry from Athens.

Start with Hydra, a unique island where cars are not allowed. Instead, transportation is by foot, donkey, or boat. Its stone mansions, narrow alleys, and crystal-clear waters create a timeless atmosphere. Spend your morning wandering through its quiet streets and enjoying a seaside coffee.

Next, head to Poros, known for its lush greenery and relaxed vibe. The island’s clock tower offers a picturesque viewpoint, and the waterfront is lined with cafés perfect for a leisurely lunch.

If your schedule allows, include a stop at Aegina, famous for its pistachios and the well-preserved Temple of Aphaia. The temple forms part of a mythical “sacred triangle” with the Parthenon and the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion.

This island-hopping day offers a refreshing contrast to the mainland—think turquoise waters, laid-back rhythms, and postcard-perfect views. Return to Athens in the evening, or prepare for an early departure to the Cyclades.
