But Greece has a special advantage: the sheer variety of its islands and beaches.
You can find volcanic landscapes, tiny coves, long sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and almost impossibly blue water. Some islands are glamorous and cosmopolitan, while others remain much quieter.
If your ideal holiday involves spending most afternoons in the sea rather than inside museums, Greece is the easier choice.
