Known as the **“Silent City,” Mdina is one of Malta’s most atmospheric historic towns. Its origins stretch back thousands of years, while the present-day appearance of the fortified city reflects centuries of medieval and later architectural influences.
Behind its impressive gates are honey-colored stone buildings, elegant palaces and remarkably quiet lanes. The town sits on a hill overlooking much of the Maltese landscape, making its elevated position part of its appeal.
Mdina is especially beautiful around sunset, when the warm Mediterranean light brings out the golden tones of its limestone walls.
