Few places in Southern Europe have a landscape as instantly recognizable as Santorini. Whitewashed buildings seem to spill down volcanic cliffs toward the deep blue Aegean, creating one of the Mediterranean’s most dramatic views.
Oia is famous for its sunsets and blue-domed churches, but the island has much more to offer. Fira provides spectacular caldera views, while villages such as Pyrgos offer a quieter atmosphere away from the busiest streets.
The volcanic character of Santorini is part of its appeal. Black-sand beaches, rugged cliffs and the caldera create scenery unlike the softer landscapes found on many other Greek islands.
