7Nafplio, Greece

Greece gets another place on the list with Nafplio, a romantic coastal town in the Peloponnese. Once the first capital of modern Greece, Nafplio combines Venetian architecture, neoclassical buildings, flower-filled balconies and a beautiful waterfront.

The old town is particularly atmospheric, with narrow pedestrian streets leading to small squares and elegant buildings. Above the town stands the impressive Palamidi Fortress, offering spectacular views over the rooftops and Argolic Gulf.

With its Mediterranean atmosphere and historic charm, Nafplio feels like a fairytale with a distinctly Greek character.
