2Day 4: Volcano Adventure and Ancient History
No trip to Santorini is complete without exploring its volcanic heritage. Join a boat excursion to Nea Kameni, the volcanic island located in the center of the caldera.
A short hike leads visitors across the rugged volcanic terrain to the crater area. Along the way, guides explain the island’s fascinating geological history and the eruptions that shaped Santorini’s landscape.
Many tours also stop at nearby hot springs, where visitors can swim in mineral-rich waters warmed by geothermal activity.
After returning to the main island, spend the afternoon at the Archaeological Site of Akrotiri. Often referred to as the “Pompeii of the Aegean,” this remarkably preserved Bronze Age settlement was buried by volcanic ash thousands of years ago.
Walking through the excavated streets reveals multi-story buildings, advanced drainage systems, and evidence of a sophisticated ancient civilization. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece and provides valuable insight into Santorini’s distant past.
