3Day 3: Beaches and Coastal Villages
Many first-time visitors are surprised to discover that Santorini’s beaches are unlike those found on other Greek islands. Thanks to its volcanic origins, the island features dramatic coastlines with black, red, and dark gray sand.
Start the day at Red Beach, one of the island’s most distinctive natural attractions. Towering red cliffs surround the small beach, creating a striking contrast against the turquoise sea.
Continue to Perissa or Perivolos Beach, both known for their long stretches of black volcanic sand. These beaches offer sunbeds, beach bars, water sports, and plenty of space to relax.
After lunch, visit the traditional village of Emporio. Often overlooked by tourists, Emporio showcases a quieter side of Santorini. Its maze-like streets, historic churches, and medieval architecture provide a fascinating glimpse into local life.
End the day in Akrotiri, a peaceful area in the southern part of the island. The coastal scenery here feels very different from the bustling caldera villages and offers a more authentic atmosphere.
