6Skaros Rock

Jutting dramatically into the caldera, Skaros Rock is one of Santorini’s most striking natural landmarks. In medieval times, it was home to one of the island’s fortified settlements. Today, it is known for its spectacular views and rewarding short hike.

The path descends from Imerovigli and winds around the cliffs. The walk is not especially long, but the scenery makes it unforgettable. As you move farther from the village, the cliffs become steeper and the sea seems to expand endlessly below.

For many visitors, the highlight is the small chapel perched on the rocks. It feels wonderfully isolated, surrounded by volcanic stone and open sky. Sunset from this area can be particularly beautiful.
