As the largest island in Greece, Crete offers enough variety to fill an entire trip.
The island’s historical significance is immediately visible at the Palace of Knossos, often associated with the ancient Minoan civilization. Yet Crete’s appeal reaches far beyond archaeology.
Its landscapes range from rugged mountains and deep gorges to fertile valleys and spectacular beaches. The old town of Chania is especially memorable, with Venetian architecture, waterfront promenades, and narrow streets that invite slow wandering.
Crete also has one of the strongest culinary identities in Greece. Local olive oil, mountain herbs, seafood, cheeses, and seasonal produce create meals that feel deeply rooted in place.
